This is my first attempt at a triptych in answer to the UF Friday Challenge of April 20. I have to thank the people on the UF mail list for their generosity in sharing their parameters. Only by studying them, could I get the frames created.

Another April Spiral
This is a muted, grayed out kind of spiral that perfectly reflects the weather and the tragic news of the past couple of days.

Merge Mode 2
Here is the second merge mode example. The gradients or colors used in the layers of this image are the exact same ones used in the image from yesterday. The only change is that one of the merge modes used is one called "difference". This particular merge mode is one of the most image altering of the choices but can be a fun way to experiment.

Merge Modes 1
Ultra-Fractal, like Photoshop has the ability to create images with layers. Each layer can hold a different set of information that, when combined with other layers, creates the entire image. Merge modes are different ways to allow the colors in a layer to interact in specific ways with the colors in the layers below them. This can create textures, highlights, color changes and any number of effects. Tomorrow, I will post this exact same fractal that was made with just one merge mode change to create a whole new image.

Frames
This spiral was framed directly in Ultra-Fractal. I honestly can't remember how I did it so I will have to go back to the original parameters to study it. One day I'll learn to write important information down...

A Completely Different Fractal
The spiral in this image has a 3D feel to it. I created this with a texture also, but it took so long to render that I settled for the smooth version.

A Different Gradient
This fractal is virtually the same one as yesterday's but with a different gradient and different texture. It just shows how important the colors and textures are and how much they can change an image.

Textured Layers
Another new week and another spiral. These spheres are layered with several different textures. An interesting feature of Ultra-Fractal is that the artist can use layers to achieve many different effects--textures, color combinations, shading. These layers can be blended in different ways also, like the layers in Photoshop. It can be a steep learning curve and I'm still working on it.

Pastel, Not Pastel
Since I work in pastels, the title here seems a little ironic to me. But in this case, I obviously mean the color not the medium. I hope some day to translate some of my fractals into pastels but this isn't it. Have a great weekend!

Another Spiral
I designated this "complementary" because of the orange/blue color scheme. It's such a different look from yesterday's image and yet still a spiral. I'm working on rendering more images and my computer seems to hum almost 24 hours a day.

Back to Spirals
Nothing else to say here, except that I'm back to spirals. I like following a theme so maybe next month I'll focus on something else, like flowers...That should be interesting.

A Brief Celebration
This is a brief interruption to my spiral theme but I wanted to celebrate my second place showing in the Ultra-Fractal on deviantArt Flower Power contest for March. The link to "Iris" on deviantArt is here. I'm very pleased about this and very surprised. I'm pretty new to deviantArt and the funny thing is the group admin had to ask for the parameters because I guess they weren't sure the image was totally created in Ultra-Fractal. It was, in fact and no post processing work went into it. Tomorrow, another spiral.

Spiraling Onward
I'm enjoying the spring air this afternoon and this fractal feels like spring to me. I'm doing a lot of rendering and the computer seems to hum almost constantly. But at least I'll have images for my posts.

Spirals
Spirals are a common shape found in fractal art. Interesting that such an organic shape is a natural part of a mathematically based art form. I'm going to post a few different spirals throughout April since they appear in so many of my images.
